Onimiki Renewable Energy has revised its schedule in recent weeks. The environmental impact study is now expected to be submitted in mid-2026.
This review is part of an effort to deepen and enrich understanding of the environment. In light of the numerous discussions held as part of the information and consultation process, Onimiki Renewable Energy commissioned CIMA+ experts to complete certain environmental inventories in order to enhance the available data.
“Our commitment has always been clear: we will take the time necessary to conduct the required environmental studies and complete the information and consultation process. It is important to have a complete picture in order to propose a project that is appropriate for the environment. This will ensure that our partners are well informed and make their décision”, said David McLaren, President of Onimiki Renewable Energy.
The start of construction and commissioning will be determined based on the duration of the regulatory process.
The facts
- The submission of the environmental impact study marks the beginning of the environmental analysis by the ministère de l’Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs (MECCFP) [ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Wildlife, and Parks].
- In addition to the MELCCFP, various ministries are involved in the regulatory process of assessing the impacts and authorizing the project, both at the provincial and federal levels (e.g., Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Quebec Ministry of Natural Resources, etc.)
- The project partners want the public to be able to express their views at BAPE public hearings.
- Mitigation measures will be proposed to reduce the project’s impacts.
